Letter From Recruitment Chair

Dear potential new members, 

I joined Phi Mu my first semester at Arkansas Tech University. I was in a new place and I didn’t know anyone besides my roommate, I wanted to get out of my shell and be an involved member of my University. So, I signed up for formal recruitment. Each night felt like a roller coaster of emotions: happy then sad then excited then scared. But by the end I was sure of my choice: I wanted to join Phi Mu. 

When I opened my bid card on bid day the relief I felt was overwhelming. I was going home. I hadn’t even met each girl in Phi Mu at this point but I was already sure that I would be glad to call each one my sister. As freshman year went on, through all the triumphs and hardships Phi Mu was there for me. They were there when I was happy and wanted to laugh and they were there when I was sad and hurt and just wanted a shoulder to cry on. When I felt lonely and out of place, as your bound to feel your freshman year, I didn’t have to look far for comfort and peace because they were already there. 

But it was also so much more than some girls I could share my feelings with. It was also a place for me to grow as a leader and a student. Phi Mu encouraged me to take leadership roles that felt out of my comfort zone and pushed me to continue to do better. They encouraged me to uphold my grades as a first priority, giving me the resources I needed to do so. And through all this I was continuously building life-long friendships. 

Now, going into my Junior year as Membership Director for our chapter I feel beyond proud to wear the Phi Mu letters. I am a stronger and more confident woman thanks to this chapter and my sisters, and I am so so excited to share this pride and love with each of you this Fall.
